Flotsam & Jetsam

Photographer Peter Tonningsen's Flotsam & Jetsam series consists of discarded objects from the sea, collected after they've washed up on the shores of San Francisco Bay. Peter then photographs them, afterwards arranging them into groups — thereby changing the context of the objects while still making a quiet statement about the fragility of our marine environment. Delicately beautiful work. View more of his photos here at lens culture.

What a great concept for photography. I love found objects and this is so interesting beacause the objects them selves are beautiful and interesting, but also harmful and dangerous to the environment, an interesting contrast

hey there-just stumbled across this blog and am pleased to see (hear) about people enjoying my work. Just to clarify, these images are made with a flatbed scanner by placing the objects directly on it, not photographed (although a scanner really is a camera in a sense)

cheers
peter

Aha! Thank you so much for visiting, Peter — and for taking the time to share how you create your lovely work, too. Very cool.
