Thinking outside the box in the case of Lynda and Peter Benoit means thinking inside it — they've installed a clever 16 x 17 x 10 foot wooden box inside their loft in the historic Besler Building, a former steam-engine factory in Emeryville, California. The box accommodates a bookcase on the outside, a bedroom on the inside (soon to have a bassinet for their new baby), and a dressing-room mezzanine above. Love this kind of creative approach to a living space — and read the Dwell article (and see more photos) here to see how they went about it, too.
By day (or, depending on the deadline, by night) I'm a Canadian collage illustrator. Since 2006, the automatism blog is where I share whatever I find inspiring, interesting, or simply beautiful in interiors, design, art, illustration and other creative fields.
